Where has the time gone? On September 7th, William turned 5 months old, and I’m still in shock. The last 5 months have just flown by, and I know that time will not go any slower. William is now 18lbs even, and 26 1/4 inches long! My friend Devon and I take our babies to the health centre every few weeks to monitor their growth!
I love having a health centre right in town that we are able to drop in to whenever we want.
The next event on our agenda is a huge family trip to Las Vegas! Anybody have any tips or advice for travelling with a baby? When I get back I will, hopefully, write a blog post about travelling with a young baby. We are staying in the Tahiti Village Resort
There is a huge lazy river, awesome pool, and I’m going with my entire Dad’s side of the family.. Grandparents, Aunts & Uncles, Cousins, my parents,my brother, his girlfriend, our family..Wow! Should be fun. I will be sure to post lots of pictures.
Now on to some updates,
Leap 4 was intense. If you have a baby, and want to follow their “leaps” download the Wonder Weeks App!
There is also a book you can purchase too, if you prefer that! You can buy it here.
“Leaps” are essentially mental growth spurts that your baby goes through. Most of the time it is pretty accurate when it comes to fussy times with your baby, based on their due date. In the app it shows a calendar that has either a cloud/storm for fussy times, or sun for happy times! Boy oh boy, is leap 4 full of storm clouds or what. Here’s an example..
As you can see, last month was full of storm clouds, and it was! William was pretty fussy, and that is unlike him. There were some evenings he would just cry, and you don’t know what to do, except just hold him, and let it pass.
Here’s an example of what the app tells you in regards to the current leap, and what your baby will learn.
Then comes the sleep regression..Now I am very lucky that William likes his sleep! When he was a month old he started sleeping through the night from around 7:30-6. Well last month he decided he would get up during the night, around 4am. It started with him just waking, and fussing, but taking his soother and going back down. Then he would wake up at 4, and not settle unless he ate! So that got fun. THEN he would wake up at 4, 5 AND 6, and want to fed at all of those wakings. I felt like he was a newborn again! I decided enough was enough and read the Sleep Sense book. I was told that this was a regression, but babies don’t normally recover from it, and you have to train them to sleep again. I wasn’t big on the idea of “Crying it out” but we decided on a 5 minute time limit for ourselves. The first night we put William down while he was awake, but sleepy, after his bedtime routine, and let him just chill in his crib. After a few minutes he started fussing, but not crying. We left him do this for about 3 minutes, then Chris went in to console him. Gave him his stuffy, rubbed his back, told him it’s ok, and left the room. He was asleep within the minute. AMAZING! He ended up waking up at 4 that morning, but just took his soother, and went back to sleep. WHAT A RELIEF! My baby is back.
He is over his little regression now which is a relief, and we aren’t even needing to do the “cry it out” method which is good. It’s certainly hard hearing your little ones cry out, when all they want is their mom or dad. I’m happy to have my baby that sleeps through the night back.
We have also started the beginning of “Elimination Communication,” in other words Infant Potty Training. I know a lot of people disagree with this, as they think you should just let babies be babies, but it is causing him no harm at all, plus it saves a few dirty diapers.
We bought the Bumbo Toilet seat from amazon..
..and William sits right up there, proud as can be. We make a “sssssssssss” noise, and he pees instantly. Day before yesterday I sat him on the toilet 4 times, and each time he peed! He also pooped once. We are starting some Baby Sign Language, and try to do the sign for toilet each time he is sitting on it. Let’s hope he learns something!
I am very excited for my new Tula Carrier to come in the mail. It should be here tomorrow! I had to get a better quality one for my back. I had one lent to me by my cousin, but it was on a cheaper side, and unfortunately with a back injury it did not help me at all. I would sore within minutes of using it. Devon’s sister is a chiropractor and recommended a Tula. They are specifically designed to carry the weight evenly along your shoulders, back and hips, so there’s no pressure point of pain. Unfortunately with an ergonomically designed carrier, it comes with a price.. They retail for $184.99CAD for the standard baby carrier. (Up to 45lbs – you can buy a toddler sized one for when your baby is bigger!) I was lucky enough to find one on sale, brand new, at $133.00CAD at Lil Monkey Cheeks online. Thank goodness! This is the pattern I got!
Can’t wait to use it, especially in Vegas!
Here are some updated pictures of William and his friends. (Yes, I realize his friends would be considered Hailey, and our cat.)
Stay tuned for more updates!
